Discover Huizen and its surroundings
Even though fishing only became the chief means of income towards the end of the 17th century, Huizen has always been known as a fishing village. Prior to that, agriculture and cottage industries were the main sources. Huizen (Dutch for houses) gained its name in the 14th century as it was the first village in the Gooi to have houses made of stone. This charming little town is certainly worth visiting. It is located in the natural, wooded surroundings of the Gooi, which are further complemented with moors, lakes and quaint villages. These many and varied attractions mean there is something for everyone to see.
